Haunt in the Heat

Haunt Hunters App
Haunt in the Heat

Spring City, PA--If the high level of entertainment value by the Haunts that decided to open early in the Haunt Season is any indication of what the the Haunt Season 2017 is going to bring, then Haunt fans are going to be in for a real treat. It goes without saying that it takes some time for Haunted Attractions to get into the stride of Haunt Season. From the Actors who bring the rooms to life to the Animatronics that require 220 volts of power to deliver the scare. Either way it takes reps to get better and for continued improvement. But for those Haunts that were open early such as the Headless Horseman in New York, Pennhurst Asylum and Hotel of Horror in Pennsylvania, they were hitting mid season form. "We spend a lot of time with actor training during the off season" says Marlo Ambrosio of the Hotel of Horror, "we aim to deliver the same performance for our valued customer no matter when they decide to visit the Hotel of Horrors." With such attention to detail, Haunt Fans are encouraged to avoid the long lines and and enjoy as many Haunted Attractions as possible. Some Haunts have even extended their seasons well into mid November. This level of preparation has raised the bar even higher in the industry and  has been delivering great experiences for those who venture out on opening weekend. Which has been an average of over 2,000 visitors at the above mentioned Haunted Attractions.
"We expect some technical difficulties on opening weekend" says Headless Horseman owner Michael Jubie "but we have people in place to fix those things that may need attention, so the show always moves forward". The shows did move forward even with the unusually extreme temperatures for late September. Actors pushed through the heat  in costumes, wardrobe and makeup in rooms full of halloween props that added to the heat. " We consistently go through our rooms at Pennhurst Asylum to keep coaching, encouraging and t to give our actors everything they need to be successful" says Director Jim Werner "This weekend it was all about keeping our actors hydrated with this heat." Just another of many examples of how the Haunters Haunts regardless of the circumstances.

More Haunted Attractions will be open this weekend including the Haunted Scarehouse in Wharton, NJ, Brighton Asylum in Passaic, NJ,. Look for the Complete list in Friday Night Frights with Chuck Mound.

Hotel of Horror Top 3

Haunt Hunters App
Hotel of Horror

Saylorsburg, PA-- Hotel of Horror finished in the Top 3 Indoor Haunted Attractions for the 2016 season and is looking to compete for the Annabelle Trophy this Haunt Season. This Haunted Attraction has it all. Authenticity is off the charts as you make your way throughout this abandoned Lake House in the Poncono Mountains. By walking through an actual house, you are bringing true meaning to Haunted House. No temporary walls are set up here, you walk upstairs, downstairs, in and out of roans, to the attic and basement and more. The owners empower their actors by allowing them to define their rooms that they Haunt. This allows great creativity and ownership of the actors who are very passionate about their Haunt.  So much so that Actor Tony Massa won the 2016 Best Actor Award for his role of Toukatsu. This is a great accomplishment considering there were over 2,000 actors who were competing for this title. Massa learned Japanese for his role and executed the rare Susuki acting method. This goes well beyond any type of animotronic or Halloween mask, when you enter his room at the Hotel of Horror, you become immersed in the room and in the Haunt. Hotel of Horror has all of the ingredients to compete for Annabelle this season. But make no mistake about it, trophy or no trophy, this is an A graded Haunt and it should be on your Haunt Tour 2017. Buy your tickets early for this one.

Pennhurst Asylum Haunted House Kickoff 2017

Book of Haunts
Pennhurst Kickoff 2017

Spring Lake, PA - Pennhurst Asylum Haunted House is kicking off their Haunt Season this Friday, September 22, 2017 in Spring City, PA which will be 1 of 22 dates that they will be opening the doors at Pennhurst.  Box Office Hours will be from 6:30 - 10:30 pm, as always if you buy a ticket that night, you will get to experience Pennhurst.  If you are looking to get some extra time, an unguided Photogrophy tour is offered from 10am-12pm where you will have access inside the Mayflower building.  You should arrive by 9:45 am and pre purchase tickets for all those that are interested. Also, a guided daytime your of Pennhurst is offered from 12:30- 3:00 pm. Part of the Haunt Kickoff Festivities includes the Haunted Hops Festival with Live Music and Free Parking from 12-4pm ad you get to sample some of the best Beers of the Fall Season such as Cornshocken Brewing, Magic Hat, Yards Brewery, Sam Adams, Traveler Beer, Stone, Shipyard, Seadog, Highway manor and more.

Looking at the Haunted House itself, there are many new additions that have been added for the 2017 season starting with the new  Attraction Containment (Tunnels). This attraction takes you through a 1,200 foot long gauntlet underneath the Pennhurst complex.  For those of you keeping track of your steps, thats 400 yards, equal to 4 football fields in length.  Stationed as a government facility hidden underground for decades, you will bare witness to patients being experimented on in the most inhumane ways possible. Lucky for you, this research facility is still accepting patients! The brand new sets and scares of this attraction are guaranteed to produce horrifying screams and nightmares to come. These hidden tunnels seemed to be a standard blueprint for most of the Asylums from back in the day. Greystone Mental Institute in Morris Plains, NJ, had the same type of tunnel system when it was still standing. Politics played a major part in its demise as it is now a parking lot.  This looks to be another great addition to Pennhurst Asylum Haunted House.

Young Pennhurst ready to Haunt

Haunt Hunters App
Pennhurst Asylum Haunted House

Springlake, PA- Pennhurst Asylum Haunt House might be considered a young Haunt in the world of Haunted Attractions as they enter season seven, but the energy that it has been drawing upon is anything but young. Built in 1908, Pennhurst was built as a school  to help those on all ends of the Mental Illness spectrum. But what was intended as a solution, quickly turned into a place that was beyond overcrowded, understaffed and underfunded.  This led to years of horrific conditions that finally sealed the doors on all of the buildings on the 100 acre property in 1989.  The acreage can lead you to underground tunnels that seem  endless and to buildings that have captured the history within its walls and if you listen close enough, you may capture one of the thousands of stories that want to be told.

Pennhurst Asylum Haunted Attraction has been listening to the spirits that roam the grounds of Pennhurst and the Haunt fans who appreciate history and entertainment  opened its doors in 2010 and has been gathering the energy and spirit since its inception. This type of Authenticity is something that cannot be replicated or reproduced.  It is what can bring a Haunted Attraction into a category of its own.

All of the props that are used are original pieces that were saved from the original school. "We are very respectful of the History of Pennhurst" says Actress Valerie Wierzbicki "we offer different programs that will allow you to experience Pennhurst in so many different ways" added Wierzbicki. New Ownership took over last season and with one season under their belt, they are committed to keep moving forward with new and innovative things.

This Haunt transforms part of grounds and brings you back to 1930 that composes of four different Attractions that are part of the Pennhurst Haunt and it is intended to be experienced in this order. The Asylum is where you will meet one of the iconic characters Dr. Webber. Who know what types of experiments that he has waiting for your. The Second phase is the Dungeon and third is the tunnel, which is the most intense part of the Haunt where the famous Genvieve roams. The dungeon houses the more volatile patients as well as treatments and experiments gone wrong. It is the underbelly of the Asylum, dark, twisted and sinister.
The fourth attraction provides access to the Mayflower Building, which has been investigated and deemed Haunted by numerous paranormal investigators including Zack Fagens of  Haunt Adventures.  This will include a Museum that will be run by historian Ruth Hines, a former employee of Pennhurst, which is a new aspect of the Haunt this season. This Haunt has built a tremendous reputation and following in the Haunted Attractions world.

Over 230 extremely dedicated and passionate staff bring Pennhurst to life. Led by General Managers Kara Lightcap and Jim Warner with Julie Kruc with Makeup & Wardrobe : The New Owners have invested a lot of money to provide property manager Neil Young with all of the tools needed in order to continue to make improvements in all aspects of the Haunt. "Many of the Sets have been rebuilt and will give our return customers something to look forward to" says Young  "We have added some features that you can only experience at Pennhurst and we are looking forward to the upcoming 2017 season".

There are no Touch Sticks at Pennhurst, so every night is contact night. However, a highly trained staff ensures your safety.  " We go through a lot of training" says Wierzbicki  "One of the things that we are known for is never breaking character".  The writing appears to be on the walls at Pennhurst Asylum Haunted House, this young Haunt is ready to deliver and compete on a National Level.

Pennhurst Has Survived

Pennhurst Asylum App
Pennhurst Asylum Haunt Hunters

Sping City, PA- Pennhurst Asylum has survived many obstacles and is still standing, the lastest change over the past 2 years has been the change of ownership at Pennhurst. What has always remained is the History and the passion to bring it to life with a staff that is committed to making Pennhurst Asylum Haunted Attraction one of the best in the Nation and as a must see destination during the Halloween Season.
Pennhurst Asylum might be considered a young Haunt in the world of Haunted Attractions as they enter season seven, but the energy that it has been drawing upon is anything but young. Haunt Fans Rave about Headless Horseman

Headless Horseman Haunted Hayride
Ulster Park, NY - Haunt Fans Rave about Headless Horseman as one of the best Haunted Hayrides in the Country. It is rated over 4.5 on Google and has over 65,000 likes and followers. Tapp the App at Haunt Hunters App to bring the Best Haunted Attractions to your smartphone built with Speed by Chuck Mound.
One of the Best Reviews was from Mel Pignatello from Brooklyn, New York and reads as follows.
I will be going back to the Headless Horseman Hayride for my fourth time this year, and each time it's a hell of a ghoulish time! The attraction covers 45 acres and includes a one mile long hayride, corn maze and six haunted houses. They also have side shows and line actor performers (while you wait in line), 5 eateries, fortune tellers and 4 gift shops.  Also, most recently the Headless Horseman has added Escape Rooms ($36.60 per person), which you have to buy a separate ticket for.  Each year the theme changes which is nice because you have new experiences if you visit again.  I am a Halloween junkie, I love visiting haunted attractions on the East Coast.  This is one of my top favorites (Trail of Terror in Wallingford, CT is pretty awesome too!). The Headless Horseman was rated the # 1 haunted attraction in the United States by Haunt World Magazine and is listed as one of the Top 20 in America.
General admission is $49.57 per person which includes a $3.95 service charge plus $3.67 NYS Sales Tax charge.  Trust me when I tell you $50 for a ticket for all that's offered is well worth the money.

The lines at Headless Horseman ARE long (however what attraction haunted or not doesn't have long lines?) but if you come with a group of friends, it's kind of nice hanging in line talking and having the anticipation build.   They do offer a speed pass (for an additional $25 on top of general admission cost) which I bought during one of my visits.  While it was great to zip into each attraction immediately I felt as if it ended too soon.  I realized then that  I didn't mind waiting in the lines as it's just part of the experience.

The level of detail behind each set design, decor, costumed staff, animatronics, pyrotechnics, the feel of being on a 250 year old farm, the organization and dedication of the 350 people employed during the season, the special FX make-up and the acting make the general admission price WELL WORTH it!  There are also side shows that start at 8:00 p.m. and continue throughout the night.  You can also have your fortune read at one of the booths.

Some suggestions I have if you visit are dress warmly.  Upstate NY in the Fall season on a farm land is pretty chilly.  Wear comfortable shoes since you'll be standing in line for a bit, and don't wear anything new as you'll be walking across farm land so it will be dusty and dirty.

Each time I have gone with my group of friends we have laughed, screamed and talked about the experience for days after.  The Headless Horseman Hayrides is by far one of my favorite attractions on the East Coast. If you haven't gone I suggest getting a group of friends together and driving the 2 hours (its 2 hours from Brooklyn NY) and enjoying the experience.  I usually stay over night at a nearby motel or hotel since I'm usually too tired to drive back.  I use concerthotels.com to search for hotels near the Headless Horseman.  The site allows you to enter the Headless Horseman name and then the dates, and the search list comes back with hits and lists how many miles away from Headless Horseman a hotel is which is very useful.

Run don't walk to the Headless Horseman Hayrides.

This provides a lot of useful information when planning your trip. The Haunt Hunters are scheduled to be at the Headless Horseman Hayrides on September 17, 2017 on opening night.

Haunt What is Already Haunted

Hotel of Horror
Hotel of Horror

Saylorsburgh, PA- At the Hotel of Horror they Haunt what is already Haunted. There is no other Haunted Attraction that is as authentic as a an abandoned 200 year old Pocono Mountain Resort once called the Lake House. You are climbing stairs, walking through rooms that are part of the the actual Hotel. There are no facades here, only the characters that were created from the energy that is released from the building itself. If Zak Bagans of Ghost Adventures is correct in saying that chills and pockets of extreme cold are indications of paranormal activity, then your paranormal radar will be on high alert. This is some of the events that happen aside from all of the action that is taking place within the 2 different Haunted Attractions in the Hotel of Horror and Altered Nightmares. The energy and passion that goes into this Haunt each season is at the industries highest level and that is one of the main ingredients to their success each year. “We let our actors be a part of the Haunt” says Haunt owner Maria Ambrosio, who owns and operated the Hotel with her husband Dan, “this allows them to be part of the creative process and have more of a vested interest in the Haunt.” This approach has worked well, the actors are on the top of their game and some even become their characters that they have created. Haunt Actor Tony Massa even learned Japanese for his role of Toukatsu in 2016, which earned Massa the Best Haunt Actor award presented by Mr Haunt and the Haunt Hunters. This Haunt was in the top 3 for 2016 with one of the Highest Grades for the Season and is worth making the trip. They do not compromise your experience to rush you through, every customer is treated with high value and that is reflected with what is delivered. 2017 Opening Night is on September 23, followed by September 24 29, 30,October1,6,7,8,13,14,15,20,21,22,27,28,29,31 and November 3,4 for a total of 20 Dates.
