Schaefer’s FrightFest kicked off
the haunt season with an invitation-only, traditional Vampyre Bonding
Ceremony. It was a marriage between
local vampires, Sparkles and Demetrius, at a secret location deep inside the
farm. The wedding featured all the
hallmarks of a traditional human wedding, except that each one of those things
were wonderfully dark and disturbing.
The ceremony itself was held in a cemetery, replete with gothic
scenery. The aisle was lined with live
torches, leading to a red-candled altar.
In attendance were all forms of creatures, from classic werewolves to
indefinable monstrosities. Exactly at
sundown, the bride was backed down the aisle in an old hearse, her coffin
unloaded and opened to face her ghoulish groom.
Any humans caught out of costume were sliced, diced, and added to the
sumptuous homemade buffet.
Speaking of homemade, perhaps the
most impressive aspect of the entire ceremony was the fact that every little
detail of the décor and costumes and make-up were homemade and
self-taught. The cast and crew’s passion
for their craft is surpassed solely by Sparkles and Demetrius’s passion for
each other. And, lest you think their
marriage is all for show, they are an actual newly-married couple. “We met in college, drifted apart, and came
back together again” stated Demetrius, whose real name is Glenn Barbagallo. His wife, Sparkles, is the former Miss Elizabeth
Griswold. Sparkles offered, “I chose the
name ‘Sparkles’ because it didn’t sound like a traditional vampire name. We’re
all a little twisted here.”
I can tell you that The Haunt
Hunters had an amazing time here and it was a perfect way to kick off Haunt
Tour 2015. It was a genuinely lovely
group of people who really knew how to throw a party! Stay tuned on your
